The Last Green Valley Purveyor Survey
Support regional farmers, find the freshest food!
We are researching various
ways to increase the amount of locally grown product sold to restaurants,
retailers, and other wholesale buyers within The Last Green Valley.
If you have a catering, restaurant, grocery, co-op,
nonprofit, or other business that regularly purchases food in wholesale
quantities, we want to hear from you!
Please help us assess the
region’s demand for locally grown
and produced products by taking 15 minutes to fill out a short on-line
survey. You can access the survey by clicking on the link below. Your
response will give us a clearer picture of the regional demand for
local, farm-fresh food.
Our goal is to support agriculture
in The Last Green Valley by linking your business to local farmers
that can supply the products you need.
We are also asking farmers to participate in their own on-line survey
to better assess their capacity to meeting growing demands for locally
grown and produced products (click on the "Farm Survey" link from
our home page). Through these surveys,
we want to
find
out
whether
there
is enough
interest to develop a region-wide distribution system.
This project is supported
by grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Business
Cooperative Service, and from the Farm Credit Northeast
AgEnhancement Program. For more information about the project, please
call Lois Bruinooge, Deputy Executive Director at 860 963-7226,
or ljbruinooge@tlgv.org.
Thank you in advance for your participation. Your results will remain
anonymous and confidential, and will not be used for any purpose other
than this study.

P.S. – Did
you know that our region is called “The Last Green
Valley” because more than 78% of the land is still forested and
farmed, in stark contrast to the surrounding metropolitan sprawl stretching
from Boston to Washington, D.C.? More than 400 farms and other agricultural
businesses provide fresh food and locally produced goods (soaps, jams, etc.)
to residents of the region and beyond.
